Apply for a Donated Property Minigrant

Project Eligibility

Donated Property Minigrants provide up to $25,000 or the value of the conservation donation, whichever is less, to pay transaction costs associated with the donation of property in fee simple, or a permanent conservation agreement.

The donation must be for one of the following purposes:

  • protection of surface water quality
  • contribution toward a riparian greenway
  • to buffer military installations
  • preservation and conservation of ecological diversity
  • development of a balanced state program of historic properties

Note:  These additional requirements must also be met:

  • The donation must be an absolute gift
  • The donation must be accepted by the organization applying for the Donation Minigrant.
  • The value of the donation must exceed transaction costs.
  • A permanent conservation agreement is required on all properties for which funds from CWMTF were used to facilitate the donation.

NOTE:  Approval of Donated Minigrants is subject to the availability of funds.

Grant Application Process

Project development

  • Contact your CWMTF Field Representative to explore concept eligibility and potential grant opportunities.
  • Develop your application narrative and budget.

Online Grants Management System Access

  • Applications are submitted online through the Grants Management System (GMS).
  • Download and complete a fillable PDF application form from the following link.
  • Log onto GMS and complete the budget and upload the application form and any supporting documents.
  • If you are not currently using the GMS, click the following GMS link for additional information about the process to gain access.

Submitting a Complete Application Packet

  • Applications are received throughout the year and are reviewed on a quarterly schedule. 
  • Use the online GMS to complete the grant application process.

Application Review and Grant Awards

  • All applications will be reviewed by a workgroup of CWMTF staff and experts from Natural Heritage Program, State Historic Property Office, and military installations as needed. 
  • A field representative will contact you if more information is needed and may schedule a meeting to review your application and discuss follow-up questions.
  • The workgroup makes recommendations to the CWMTF Board Chair for approval by the Chair.
  • Reviews are scheduled for the first of October, January, April, and July.  Applications must be received at least two weeks before a meeting date to be reviewed at the next meeting.
